I have just recently set up a spam filtering server running Gentoo, Postfix, Amavisd-new, clamav and SpamAssassin.

Is this simply a case of ensuring that spamd is loaded at startup?
Code: | # rc-update add spamd default |
Will amavisd-new just detect that the spamd daemon is running and forward messages to be analysed onto spamd, or is it a little more involved than this? (im sure that it must be
Thanks for your help _________________ - Hodglim

It should work automagically if you invoke spamc from the scanning script. If you call spamassassin instead just change this reference. IIRC I had to do this when setting up it up with qmail.
Depending on your circumstances you may want to make spamd run as a non root user; Gentoo doesn't do this by default. Create a spamd user/group and then modify SPAMD_OPTS in /etc/conf.d/spamd to include -u spamd. |
