Cornbread8484,
startpage.com does not show many hits for this. That suggests its something to do with your system.
Widespread issues are all over the internet and often the forums.
The warning was added to the kernel in 2016. There are hints it may be a firmware/microcode issue.
CPU microcode is provided in three places.
1. In the CPU in a slow ROM at CPU manufacture time.
Its copied to RAM (inside the CPU), so that it can be used at full CPU core speed.
2. In the motherboard BIOS, that can update the microcode inside the CPU too.
3. Lastly, the kernel can update the microcode as it starts.
Only Early Microcode updating is supported now.
Try that. If your BIOS provides the latest microcode, it will do nothing.
Kernel microcode updating is much lower risk than updating your BIOS, which may still have an old microcode anyway.
Something else to try. The firmware. Code: | DMC firmware i915/rkl_dmc_ver2_03.bin (v2.3) | is only required for power management.
If you rename /lib/firmware/i915/rkl_dmc_ver2_03.bin so that it cannot be found, you will get an error message in dmesg, there will be no power management but operation of the GPU will not be otherwise affected.
Maybe try that first as its easy to do. _________________ Regards,
