Dear friends,

I am using an Yeeloong netbook and it freezed when I was doing the
usual update of the world. I found that it was stoped at the step of
configuring the glib. The glib uses the meson to config it. Before
this freeze, it also froze at configuring the systemd-253.5 and I masked
the systemd. Systemd is also using the meson to do the configuration. I
suspect that the meson seems to conflict with something. I have tried
meson 1.1.1 and also downgrade the meson to 1.0.1, the same thing happens.

I have also an older gentoo installation on that netbook on another partition.
I remember that I tried "meson _build" for the same glib version in the older
gentoo, it passed the configuration. So I guess there could be some conflict
between meson and something else or meson uses some libs with conflicts.
The netbook is now busy in updating. I will provide the older gentoo system
configuration later.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The "emerge --info" shows

I've also tried "meson _build" in the "/var/tmp/.../glib-2.76.3/work/glib-2.76.3/".
The meson caused the system freezing at:
Code:

...
Dependency mount found: YES 2.38.1 (cached)
Found pkg-config: /usr/bin/pkg-config (1.8.1)

A previous run with a higher version meson (I forgot which version) just froze at the
Code:

...
Run-time dependency mount found: YES 2.38.1

Hello

First thing I would say is you are building using unstable packages.
Revert back to stable and see if that solves your problem, then take it from there.

Hope this helps.

mips doesn't have stable keywords. As for meson: ... is your pkg-config calling itself recursively or something?

I found that when building the glib in the console, it will provide more information about the bug. I've uploaded the video here https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1rW4y1f7hB/?spm_id_from=top_right_bar_window_dynamic.content.click&vd_source=782198654f0eaf277798b118845c1ca1 .

The emerge also cause freeze when it is configuring the ccache which is using the cmake. Similarly, it provided more information in the console, and I've uploaded here https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1XV4y187rf/?spm_id_from=333.999.0.0&vd_source=782198654f0eaf277798b118845c1ca1 .

Any helpful comments are appreciated.

Your first video seems to show the kernel erroring out, saying "do_cpu invoked from kernel context!"

What kernel version is this (EDIT: oh I see it's 6.3.4)? Could you report it upstream?

Report it to the kernel or the meson upstream? I haven't done this before.

I find that it is the cmake which is the origin of the problem. When I emerge the newest version cmake-3.28.3, it freezes somewhere at the installation stage. I reboot and go to /var/tmp/portage/dev-build/cmake-3.28.3/work/cmake-3.28.3_build/bin, and run ./cmake --version, it shows the version but followed with the backtraces ... and freezes. But when I run the ./bootstrap &&make &&make install in the /var/tmp/portage/dev-build/cmake-3.28.3/work/cmake-3.28.3/ directory, it finished successfully and installed the files in the /usr/local/. Now it seems that the cmake in the /usr/local can be used to install the other apps without any problems now. But the buggy one is still in the /usr/bin/.

So, it seems that the bug is introduced somewhere in the emerge process or some compilation switches causes the bug?

It seems that after updating to the kernel-6.7.6, and cmake-3.28.3 and the latest world, the problem disappears.

That kernel error appears to be a sanity check, so it is always a kernel bug if it triggers. The kernel should never allow userspace to provoke that error, no matter how badly userspace misbehaves.
