I followed the instructions for sbctl.

Code:

sbctl status
sbctl create-keys
sbctl enroll-keys
sbctl status
Installed:   ✔ Sbctl is installed
Owner GUID:   <my-guid>
Setup Mode:   ✔ Disabled
Secure Boot:   ✘ Disabled

After the last command, I rebooted, but my laptop won't properly turn on anymore. The keyboard lights up, the caps lock led goes on and off, but it is completely unresponsive. I have no way to access the UEFI/Bios.
The display doesn't seem to turn on either.

I tried resetting it holding the power button down for several seconds and rebooting it but to no avail.

Messing with the UEFI firmware's Secure Boot keys is dangerous, because of the, uh, varying quality of UEFI implementations :-P That's why I prefer the Shim and machine owner keys (MOK) approach to using Secure Boot with [GNU/]Linux...

The complete instructions (using the UEFI firmware of an ASUS Z170-A motherboard as an example) are here. They include (firmware-specific) steps to make the laptop enter what is called "Setup Mode", which allows you to replace keys, did you do that?

Did the output of previous sbctl subcommands show success? Especially sbctl enroll-keys? Find out if your firmware allows entering some kind of user interface that you can work with, and try that. Usually by pressing certain key(s) during boot.

I wish you luck.

As a packager I just don't want things to get messier with weird build systems and multiple toolchains requirements though :)
