Does anyone use a Zero or Pi 4 with Gentoo as the OS in the USB OTG mode?

I have tried a couple of times and don't quite get there. Strangely, to me, g_ether doesn't load from the cmdline.txt instructions, dwc2 does. I can modprobe it and it works, but that requires input other than over the usb. If I load g_ether the old school way during init it is there. Where I am coming up blank is getting the usb.ethx right so I can actually communicate with the Pi.

Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks.
