Hi all,
I've got Gentoo setup on my laptop the way I want now with everything working. I want to transition my main workstation over now as well. Am I fine in copying over the make.conf, package.use, accept and custom sets over to the workstation and doing an emerge after the main install in the handbook? Obviously I would need to tweak a few things that were laptop specific in the copied config (there is no intel graphics on the workstation for instance.) |

Hi alaurie,
yes, you can copy those files from /etc/portage you mentioned and /var/lib/portage/world (Be careful not to mess it up if you'd edit it by hand!) to the other machine to have a similar setup as a starting point. I'd recommend to backup the original files on the 'new' machine so you can go back / check for differences if something is not acting as expected in the process of transition. Just don't do it blindly and check the output of emerge before hitting enter - just like you said you would
Happy compiling!

alaurie,
You can cheat a bit more ...
Copy the world file over too.
Run Code: | emerge -eav @world --keep-going --jobs=2 |
If you fine tune your CFLAGS and CPU_X86_FLAGS for the new home, portage will rebuild things for its new home. _________________ Regards,
