Many websites related to programming use gravatar to get the avatar:
- Github
- Gitlab
- Stackoverflow
- AskUbuntu
- PYPI
- CPAN

I'm not familiar with that site, but it is blocked by uMatrix. I don't remember doing that intentionally. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Apparently yet another digital id to rule them all.
I miss the times when internet was the new, scary thing full of bad people who absolutely can't be trusted... And pretty much everyone took care of online hygiene
You could say it's not my problem, but I have already seen some online services that _require_ signing up with facebook, so I dare say it's being made into one. |

Is it that hard to set your profile picture if you want? _________________ My overlay: https://github.com/stefan11111/stefan_overlay

I think it's ore of people getting lazy and only want to remember one password/login for all sites, then again, if they have to maintain centralized authentication methods (fb/gravatar/google/...) and their own private login, then they'd rather do the more popular one and it seems the one-login system is winning just because of laziness from maintaining multiple logins and security implications of such...
Personally I don't want google/fb/whoever centralized to know my browsing habits and I'll happily create a new account instead of using a centralized one. _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

Only one, and it was github. Others I've seen allow most of the big names as options in addition to normal sign-up via email. A site that requires any of them is simply a site I'll ignore. I already want to go back to only having a land-line without an answering machine and the ringer turned off.
I understand the convenience for the user, but I don't understand why any organization would want to trust some of those organizations with ID. Due to size alone, Google is the source of a lot of spam / disreputable accounts, so "outsourcing" user authentication seems like a bad choice. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
