Easiest way to unmask packages? Followed guide but my package still says masked. |

The easiest solution is to use emerge --autounmask, which is infamous for leading novice users astray, so you should guide it carefully to the result you want. What guide did you follow? When asking for help, you should tell us what you did and why you thought that was the right action, so we can understand the current state of your system. |

Well I’m assuming emerge —autounmask doesn’t just do the trick.
The package is sys-kernel/linux-firmware
—autounmask sounds like a -f (force flag) which is my understanding. I want it to proceed with my linux-firmware install but stops at the masked package message. The guide I followed is https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Knowledge_Base:Unmasking_a_package |

The important part is the reason it is masked.
For packages that are hard masked by a developer, then yes, that is the correct guide to follow.
For linux-firmware, I'm guessing that it says "masked by license" or similar. In that case, the package.license guide explains how to continue on. |
