Greetings Gentoo-ites! It's been a really long time, but it looks like life is settling down to where I can enjoy a Linux box again. I used Gentoo many moons ago, would run an unstable bleeding-edge box, and love it. Is Gentoo still alive and well? Is it still regularly updated and maintained? I just wanted to see as it's been so long. Thanks!

It's alive and well and has seen a lot of improvements over the years.

See also https://repology.org/ (generic, not Gentoo specific).

Welcome back! :D

Gentoo is very much alive. Hopefully the switch back over to Linux will lead to a much more relaxing and peaceful computing experience! :)

Wonderful! Now I'll need to get all of my hardware determined so I can get ready to format things. #fdiskWindoze

nanoczar,

Welcome back. We knew you would come, just not when :)

Nobody ever leaves Gentoo. Users just stray for a while. :)

To be fair, I can't blame people for coming back! I've not been using Gentoo as my primary for long, but I've been a Linux user (other distros) for many years.

Switching to Gentoo on my main rig was the best choice I ever made! Brings back "old linux" memories and I feel I have Linux, as it should be back. I also love being able to just throw patches in /etc/portage/patches to patch things, it just makes it so much more convenient than what would be necessary on other distros. :D

Seen this quite a bit too! It actually reminds me of XFCE, much like Gentoo there are often claims of its death. But the reality is that they are both just somewhat niche projects within a niche community and so it may not appear as active as others. That doesn't however mean they're dead. :)

I'm hoping to get a local LUG going soon. We'll see if I can get the momentum on campus to make it happen.

Now to clean up my PC, download an image, and get Gentoo installed!
