I installed gentoo with kernel 6.1.57 and debian 12 with 6.1.57 only to have artifacting when video driver loads on both. The kernel in the live cd of gentoo (6.1.53) works without artifacting. Here is my config I took from /proc on livecd. https://file.io/RruWjniNQPt8

Here is my video driver info https://linux-hardware.org/?id=pci:1002-71c5-106b-0080 So what should I be enabling in my kernel for the RV530?

I've never had artifacts show up on video driver loading with any of the older, known working ATI boards, if you don't know the history of the video you have I'd highly consider it a hardware issue.

Livecd is probably using a generic VESA driver which is slow... if this is acceptable you could look into that, but for me I'd probably have to pitch the video card or laptop if it happens to be soldered in...

Yeah I'll disable the video driver and somehow only get the VESA to go.

if you're using a macintosh it might be the kernel modesetting framebuffer driver (VESA I think is a PC thing) but regardless it's also slow since it won't use acceleration.

You use /boot/refind_linux.conf. There are examples of the syntax in the relevant Wiki article (section "Linux command line options") and upstream's documentation.

Please post the output of lsmod on both the live CD and the installation.

Interesting. There's no specific video driver loaded. According to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Radeon your adapter is supported by the radeon driver. Try adding VIDEO_CARDS="radeon r300" in your make.conf and run full world update. It would also be useful if you add the lsmod from your artifacting installation as well as dmesg from both.

Best Regards,
Georgi
