brianddk,
Welcome to gentoo,
Nice job! Dare to share what you intend to do with this nice new toy of yours?
Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support. _________________ USE="-* ..." in /etc/portage/make.conf here, i.e. a countermeasure to portage implicit braces, belt & diaper paradigm

Well I wanted to learn another distro. Before my two distro's of choice were Debian and Arch. But since Arch, Slack, and Nix all dropped support for ARMv6, I started looking at Gentoo. I did a bit of work on Gentoo when I was jailbreaking a ChromeOS laptop I had. That's how I originally learned of it. One of the projects I wanted to do was Linux From Scratch. I thought Gentoo would be a good warmup for LFS.
Other Gentoo specific ideas I had were to make binary package server. Thought about hooking a rotary SATA drive to the SoC since the constant compilations may burn out an eMMC or SSD. Also thought about adding some of the SoC specific packages to the GURU repo, though the Developers manual is a voluminous read.
But the original reason I took the SoC out of the junk drawer was to use it as bus analyzer for a 6502 breadboard computer I was making. Ended up finding a embedded controller that I liked a bit better though. |

A late welcome from my side as well. "Learning another distro" could easily fill three lives at the same time. (And livers, too.) Every time I review the current state of Linux, Gentoo turns out to be among the last three sane choices... _________________ I already use the new Genthree. |

Welcome to the party, pal!
How is the performance on that RPI?
I have a keen interest in repurposing my RPI model B, which I purchased back in 2012. Currently, it is equipped with Archlinux and Kodi (XBMC), and I have been utilizing it for several years. Although I did try using NetBSD on it, unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. |
