every few months, it seems valve updates dota 2 and it stops working for me. happened again today. a family member played a game, exited, walked away to eat dinner, then came back about an hour or so later and there was a dota 2 update queued. did the forced update and viola, dota 2 doesn't launch anymore. segfault.
the last time this happened (august of this year), it was nvidia video driver related. i tried installing the prior stable nvidia driver (525) - same issue. tried the unstable version (545), same issue. current stable (535), same issue.
the error message states (in a steam dialog box):
Code: | the selected graphics queue does not support presenting a swapchain image |
searching this, i find from years ago some info related to mesa. i tried mesa 23.1.8 (current stable), 23.1.9 (testing), and 23.2.1 (testing). no dice, still won't work.
is anyone else running into this? any thoughts on how to fix it?

tried the fix by replacing the libs and it seems to work. in a dual monitor config (i have 2 monitors), i need to unplug one monitor otherwise game splash never goes away and also switches quickly, and continuously, between the two monitors. |

the dota 2 update last night fixed the issue for me, mostly. i still have an issue where the game won't start if i have both my monitors turned on. if i turn one off, start the game, then turn the monitor on everything is still fine. pretty odd. with both on, the splash screen with red dota logo swap rapidly between both monitors until i kill the dota 2 processes from the command line (which is challenging due to the screen blinking and such...). |
