|
|
Hi,
I did not succeeded to have the sound on my laptop Dell XPS 9320. The specifications says that it has speakers.
But no sound from the headphone neither the speakers.
Note : when i enabled pulseaudio, the headphone is ok but not the speakers.
Here is the output from alsa-info.sh : https://alsa-project.org/db/?f=cf4458e8eaa8e9856adf9a0851e522801b13e49f
The bios version is the last one.
When F2 to access to the Bios, it show that the Audio chipset controller is ALC714 !
In my machine, Gentoo show as Intel Alder Lake PCH-P High Definition Audio

I've uninstall pulseaudio to be sur that alsa works correctly.

Did you enable Code: | CONFIG_SND_SOC_SOF_ALDERLAKE | in your kernel config? _________________ Donate to Gentoo |

snd_hda_intel was loaded by default.
It seem to me that CONFIG_SND_SOC_SOF_ALDERLAKE is linked to snd_sof_pci_intel_tgl module :
Code: |
Symbol: SND_SOC_SOF_ALDERLAKE [=m] │
│ Type : tristate │
│ Defined at sound/soc/sof/intel/Kconfig:239 │
│ Prompt: SOF support for Alderlake │
│ Depends on: SOUND [=y] && SND [=m] && SND_SOC [=m] && SND_SOC_SOF_TOPLEVEL [=y] && SND_SOC_SOF_INTEL_TOPLEVEL [=y] && SND_SOC_SOF_PCI [=m] │
│ Location: │
│ -> Device Drivers │
│ -> Sound card support (SOUND [=y]) │
│ -> Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (SND [=m]) │
│ -> ALSA for SoC audio support (SND_SOC [=m]) │
│ -> Sound Open Firmware Support (SND_SOC_SOF_TOPLEVEL [=y]) │
│ -> SOF support for Intel audio DSPs (SND_SOC_SOF_INTEL_TOPLEVEL [=y]) │
│ (2) -> SOF support for Alderlake (SND_SOC_SOF_ALDERLAKE [=m]) │
│ Selects: SND_SOC_SOF_INTEL_TGL [=m]
|
Also, i have already force to load and use snd_sof_pci_intel_tgl instead of snd_hda_intel into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf :
Code: |
# \!/ if used, there is no cards detected
# forcing the second driver i.e. snd_sof_pci_intel_tgl
options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=2
|
But i noticed that there is no cards detected... |

There is no CONFIG_SND_SOC_SOF_ALDERLAKE module.
The card is not detected.
Code: |
cat /proc/asound/cards
--- no soundcards ---
|
Note :
I've installed Pipiwire since. I played a song with mocp and there is sound from the headphones but not from the speakers.
alsamixer display only "Master and Capture" volume control into the Card:PipeWire. No others cards, with F6. |

y351,
From chip-ID: 8086:51c8, cateee.net says you need
Code: | CONFIG_SND_SOC_SOF_INTEL_TGL |
That's from the Sound Open Firmware sound stack.
It has all its own CODECS, in addition, Code: | sys-firmware/sof-firmware | is usually required. _________________ Regards,

Code: | egrep -ri udev /etc/pulse/*
/etc/pulse/system.pa:.ifexists module-udev-detect.so
/etc/pulse/system.pa:load-module module-udev-detect
/etc/pulse/system.pa:### Use the static hardware detection module (for systems that lack udev/hal support) |
I think so. |

NeddySeagoon,
You say that i must use the snd_sof_pci_intel_tgl driver instead of snd_hda_intel , right ?
Such as:
Code: | /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf |
Code: |
#options snd_hda_intel index=0 model=dell-xps13
blacklist snd_hda_intel
options snd_sof_pci_intel_tgl index=0
options snd-usb-audio index=1 |
It seem that i've already gave a try with this driver and it did not work.
Let's try again. |

FWIW, this file is not cumulative. Only the final line is used. To use all of them, it should be modules="kvm-intel vhost_net sch_netem snd_hda_codec_realtek pinctrl_alderlake"
If you would rather list modules one on each line, use a new /etc/modules-load.d/*.conf file. While this style may have been introduced by systemd, OpenRC will read and respect these files as well.
Example of a /etc/modules-load.d/mod.conf file: Code: | kvm-intel
vhost_net
sch_netem
snd_hda_codec_realtek
pinctrl_alderlake |

After blacklisting snd_hda_intel
Code: | inxi -Aa
Audio:
Device-1: Intel Alder Lake Imaging Signal Processor vendor: Dell driver: N/A bus-ID: 00:05.0
chip-ID: 8086:465d class-ID: 0480

alternate: snd_hda_intel, snd_sof_pci_intel_tgl bus-ID: 00:1f.3 chip-ID: 8086:51c8
class-ID: 0401
Device-3: Realtek USB Audio driver: snd-usb-audio type: USB rev: 2.0 speed: 480 Mb/s lanes: 1
mode: 2.0 bus-ID: 3-1.3.4:9 chip-ID: 0bda:402e class-ID: 0102 serial: 200901010001
API: ALSA v: k6.6.7-gentoo status: kernel-api tools: alsactl,alsamixer,amixer

|
Code: | cat /proc/asound/cards
1 [Dock ]: USB-Audio - WD19 Dock
Dell-WD15-Dock
cat /proc/asound/modules
1 snd_usb_audio |
There is not anymore PCH sound card.
The Earphones is working, either connected to the laptop or to the Dock.
The speakers from the Screen connected to the Dock does not work ; alsamixer does not show the speakers control volume.
The intern speakers of the laptop is not detected since the module snd_hda_intel was blacklisted.
Note : Since Pipewire is installed, alsamixer - by default - has only "Master and Capture" volume control.
How to get back the PCH card to work and to force the use of snd_sof_pci_intel_tgl ? |

To force the use of SOF :
Code: | vgrep /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf |
Code: |
options snd_hda_intel index=0
options snd-usb-audio index=1,2,3
options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=3 |
List of addiontional modules :
Code: | vgrep /etc/conf.d/modules |
Code: | modules="vhost_net sch_netem \

I do not know whether it is for the best or not but i have sound on speakers with SOF instead of snd_hda_intel.

I've tried to create a wiki page but there is a bug : https://bugs.gentoo.org/910279
[Moderator edit: fixed [bug] tag. The original was [bug=], which caused the link to point to the root of https://bugs.gentoo.org/, not to a specific bug. -Hu] |
