My 'real' configuration of X works fine, but I was trying to configure it to use another video card. Running X -configure dies. Here's the end of the file:

[code]
[a whole bunch of unresolved symbols]

*** be the reason for the server aborting.

sendmail: Cannot open mail:25
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

Does anyone else find it REALLY weird that I'm getting sendmail errors... in /var/log/XFree86.0.log? And am I insane for concluding that it looks as if sendmail is somehow the thing killing X? (The sendmail errors are being spewn out every now and then to my console, though, but their presence _in_ my logfile seems rather odd?)

I don't think sendmail is the problem. Your system is simply trying to send you (the admin) a mail and fails as sendmail is not installed or not configured.
