USE=nptl got removed yesterday from gcc as it did nothing at all
Well, it was keeping my installed version from needing to be rebuilt :)

I've been using --exclude sys-devel/gcc, and of course exclude doesn't work with specific versions. I have no need to upgrade anytime soon, including off of v12 (the affected installed version is 12.3.1_p20230825:12). Based on upstream historical releases, major.3 versions seem close tot he last of a version line, so that's typically what I try to stay on. So my next upgrade would be the next stabilized 12.3.1 patch, or 13.3 when it is stabilized.

Are there any other means to ignore that ntpl was removed? I upgrade using:
emerge -auv -DU --ask-enter-invalid --alphabetical --complete-graph --keep-going --quiet-build=y --unordered-display @world

I presume the answer is no, but thought I check.

You can just continue to --exclude sys-devel/gcc (or could --exclude sys-devel/gcc:13 etc), as I'll stable new versions in each slot shortly anyway. In hindsight, i should've coalesced it with the removal.

GCC versions go from .1 up to .5 (after .5, they are immediately EOL'd). We usually recommend switching to a new branch when it gets stabled, as it only gets stabled when we're confident it's ready, but of course, users can do what they wish.

Thanks sam_.

I'll continue to use exclude for now and will look for whatever the next 13 release is.

It was only a minor inconvenience, and I only asked because I spent more time than I should have trying to mask the flag change before realizing it was probably removed.

I lag a bit on upgrading due to aging hardware. With 12.3, it seemed like a good once per year major upgrade schedule: 10.3 2021-04, 11.3 2022-04, 12.3 2023-05. Maybe I was thinking .3 was far enough into the new version and still far enough from EOL.
