Hi,

The first 4 partitions are those from a Windows 10
the first partition is the System partition from Windows????
the second is the efi partition
the third is the Microsoft reserved partition
the 4th is the Microsoft basic data partition (ntfs the c drive)

When mounting the first partition
Code:
mount /dev/md126p1 /mnt

message:
Code:
mount: /mnt: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/md126p1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.
dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call.

when vfat module is loaded before:
Code:
modprobe vfat

then the mount is ok.

Is this a bug? Or is this works as designed?
If a bug where can a bug-report be opened?

Marc.

What happens if you do this mount command (before manually loading module vfat) ?
Code:
mount -t vfat /dev/md126p1 /mnt

linux_os2,

When you use the lazy form of mount, that is, you don't provide all the information, the kernel looks in /etc/fstab for the missing data

When you give a block device and destination but no filesystem, the kernel tries all the filesystems it knows.
If driver is loaded, good, if not, the mount fails. The kernel does not know what filesystem driver to load.

When you provide all the information that mount requires, the kernel can load the module.

Its a design feature, not a bug.
Well. its more a case of the kernel has no way to determine the filesystem until the filesystem is mounted.
