PostPosted: Wed Feb 07, 2024 6:57 am    Post subject: [SOLVED] app-misc/tracker:0 blocking preserved-rebuild Reply with quote

Hi all,

I can't wrap my head around this problem. I am trying to run preserved-rebuild, but it fails. See beneath
Code:

$ sudo emerge -pv @preserved-rebuild
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 2.81 s (backtrack: 0/20).

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "app-misc/tracker:0".
(dependency required by "@preserved-rebuild" [argument])

 * IMPORTANT: 5 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news read to view new items.

So, I checked. app-misc/tracke is installed
Code:

$ emerge -pv app-misc/tracker

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 2.55 s (backtrack: 0/20).

[ebuild   R    ] app-misc/tracker-3.6.0:3/0::gentoo  USE="miners -gtk-doc -stemmer -test -vala" 2,501 KiB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 2,501 KiB

 * IMPORTANT: 5 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news read to view new items.

So I checked the ebuild
Code:

SLOT="3/0" # libtracker-sparql-3.0 soname version

If I read that correctly the sot is 3 and subslot is 0. So portage is correct in saying there are no ebuild to satisfy app-misc/tracker:0

Then I went checking who is depending on this ebuild.

Code:

$ equery d app-misc/tracker
 * These packages depend on app-misc/tracker:
app-cdr/brasero-3.12.3 (tracker ? app-misc/tracker:3)
app-misc/tracker-miners-3.6.2 (>=app-misc/tracker-3.6_rc:3)
gnome-base/gnome-extra-apps-44.4 (tracker ? >=app-misc/tracker-3.5.3)
gnome-base/nautilus-45.2.1-r1 (>=app-misc/tracker-3.0:3)
media-plugins/grilo-plugins-0.3.16 (tracker ? app-misc/tracker:3)
net-misc/gnome-online-miners-3.34.0-r1 (>=app-misc/tracker-2:0/2.0)

I believe that this is happening because I originally had a gnome profile but not not all those packages are still available.

Code:

emerge -pv app-misc/tracker-miners gnome-base/nautilus net-misc/gnome-online-miners

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 1.32 s (backtrack: 0/20).

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "net-misc/gnome-online-miners".

 * IMPORTANT: 5 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news read to view new items.

What would be the correct set of action to fix this?

Adding the emerge --info just in case.
Code:

What does the emerge -cp net-misc/gnome-online-miners command output?

Code:

emerge -cp net-misc/gnome-online-miners

Calculating dependencies... done!
>>> Calculating removal order...

>>> These are the packages that would be unmerged:

 net-misc/gnome-online-miners
    selected: 3.34.0-r1
   protected: none
     omitted: none

All selected packages: =net-misc/gnome-online-miners-3.34.0-r1

>>> 'Selected' packages are slated for removal.
>>> 'Protected' and 'omitted' packages will not be removed.

Packages installed:   1253
Packages in world:    79
Packages in system:   49
Required packages:    1252
Number to remove:     1

Is just removing it the solution then?

Yes, no package depend on it and I don't think you use it as a standalone program.

I cleaned up. Unfortunately, I face the same problem.
It looks like no other package is depending on the 0 slot. But I can't pass this.

Code:

$ equery d app-misc/tracker
 * These packages depend on app-misc/tracker:
app-cdr/brasero-3.12.3 (tracker ? app-misc/tracker:3)
app-misc/tracker-miners-3.6.2 (>=app-misc/tracker-3.6_rc:3)
media-plugins/grilo-plugins-0.3.16 (tracker ? app-misc/tracker:3)

How can I understand which package is requiring the 0 slot?

You should always run a world upgrade, depclean, then preserved-rebuild -- as otherwise, preserved-rebuild may try to do things which are otherwise eligible for depclean (and may not even be re-emergeable).

Thanks. I did run update `world`
Code:

sudo emerge --ask --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world
Password:

 * IMPORTANT: 5 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news read to view new items.

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 28.92 s (backtrack: 0/20).

!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- dev-lang/lua-5.4.4-r103::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

Nothing to merge; quitting.

raffaele@tantalis ~ $

But when I ran depclean
Code:

Sorry it was too long to paste here.

That is not right. Removing gcc I currently use, the kernel sources and a lot of other things I use.
I think I am unraveling a different problem looking at depclean output.

No, depclean is critical to: a) run regularly; b) run before preserved-rebuild. It is not optional.

You should emerge --noreplace things you want to keep because you're currently using it. You really shouldn't be using an old version of GCC 11 though, you should use the latest version instead (even the latest GCC 11). You can also --exclude gentoo-sources if you want instead, as it can't read what 'eselect kernel' points to.

Thanks! I used `noreplace` and fixed the list of packages.
I ran the commands again.

Code:

sudo emerge --depclean

 * Always study the list of packages to be cleaned for any obvious
 * mistakes. Packages that are part of the world set will always
 * be kept.  They can be manually added to this set with
 * `emerge --noreplace <atom>`.  Packages that are listed in
 * package.provided (see portage(5)) will be removed by
 * depclean, even if they are part of the world set.
 *
 * As a safety measure, depclean will not remove any packages
 * unless *all* required dependencies have been resolved.  As a
 * consequence of this, it often becomes necessary to run
 * `emerge --update --newuse --deep @world` prior to depclean.

Calculating dependencies... done!
>>> No packages selected for removal by depclean
>>> To see reverse dependencies, use --verbose
Packages installed:   1194
Packages in world:    264
Packages in system:   49
Required packages:    1194

depclean is ok now. I try to run @preserved-rebuild

Code:

raffaele@tantalis ~ $ sudo  emerge @preserved-rebuild

 * IMPORTANT: 9 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news read to view new items.

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 1.59 s (backtrack: 0/20).

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "dev-libs/libgweather:2".
(dependency required by "@preserved-rebuild" [argument])

A got the same problem on a different package. If I try to install the package again
Code:

>>> Recording dev-libs/libgweather in "world" favorites file...
--- replaced obj /usr/share/doc/libgweather-4.4.0/NEWS.bz2
>>> Completed (1 of 1) dev-libs/libgweather-4.4.0::gentoo
--- replaced dir /usr/share/doc
 * GNU info directory index is up-to-date.

I tried to see if I had any package in the tree with that dependency

I cannot find anything depending on libgweather:2. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

In the end, I had to remove the entry from the world file.
Code:

tantalis /home/raffaele # grep "weather" /var/lib/portage/world
dev-libs/libgweather
dev-libs/libgweather:2

Now it is solved and I can proceed with emerge @preserved-rebuild

Thanks all for the help.
