Which ones of MythTV or Freevo is the best graphic multimedia system for mp3's/movies ?
*I don't use a tv-card in the mini-itx box. _________________ -- -- gentoo goes mooh mooh -- --

from what I understand It seems that MythTV might be the best bet, naturally you should experiment with both though |

I haven't used Freevo, but MythTV is quite nice, and MythMusic supports mp3/flac/vorbis, and can rip&tag for you. MythVideo uses mplayer, so it can play just about everything, and there are other plugins for weather, news, games, web browsing, and photo galleries. |

Don't you have to run mysql in the background when you use MythTV ? _________________ -- -- gentoo goes mooh mooh -- -- |

Yes, you need tu run. Myth stores almost everything in a mysql table (config, programmes, etc).
And you have to run the mythbackend in the background, too.

You do need to run mysql in the background, but you don't need to run mythbackend if you are just playing music.
I just set mine up to play all my audio files to my reciever using my TV as the 'monitor'. Can check the weather too
Still working on the TV,DVD side of things. |

Actually, you can run mysql and the mythbackend on one server, if you have one, and the mythfrontend on the miniITX box. If you get a capture card later for the server, you can watch TV from it over the network on the front-end box without having to stuff more hardware in... _________________ This post more meaningful in a scalar context. |
