Hello gentoo community! This is my first post. Maybe a stupid one but its been on my mind for quite a while now. Would it be possible to install portage on another linux os?

Like for example on an LFS installation? Now i know that this is kind of stupid because your essentially just turning it into gentoo in the end anyway. But... I like stupid stuff :D

I dont need a tutorial but if you were to try it (asking for a friend  ) where would you start?

grapefruithoarder2000,

Welcome to Gentoo.

"Because I can" is as good a reason to do something as any other.

Installing portage on LFS is like installing any other package there.
Install the dependencies, install portage.

Using it is a different matter altogether. You didn't ask about that.
Portage keeps track of every file installed on the system. That's in /var/db/pkg/
After you install portage on LFS, portage will have lost its mind. More exactly, it will have been born without one.
The profiles provided in the ::gentoo repo are some useful defaults too. You will want them.

You didn't ask about the repo(s) but you will need the ::gentoo repo

All in all, a new Gentoo install will be faster that trying to convert LFS but that's not a reason to avoid it.

Yes, by the time you're done, it will just be another gentoo with unnecessarily difficult upbringing.
There are some tutorials for in-place conversion from another distro. Perhaps this wiki article could be useful:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Replace_a_Linux_installation_with_Gentoo_in-place

Haven't read it; such conversion is an inherently stupid idea, since there are many things that can go wrong in very obscure ways, but fun is fun. Go ahead and enjoy your journey.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate any new info :)
