Hello,
I have installed gentoo recently and I have extracted the stage3 tarball in the wrong place. There were no instructions on where it should be extracted.
I know this is minor but installing gentoo for the first time is scary so I would like to add information that it should be copied to the target machine and then extracted (section Installing a stage file)
However I cannot edit the handbook. Can someone please allow me to do that or do it themselves? |

setan,
The handbook is one of the few protected pages on the wiki.
Think what would happen if it were changed for the worse, whatever the motive.
You can contribute to the handbook on its talk/discussion pages.
When the talk pages are changed, the wiki emails contributors to notify them. _________________ Regards,

To be fair to the op, the line showing to change the directory is part of setting the time manually, if you look at the formatting of the page and its titles/sub-titles.
I recently followed the handbook for an install and found it odd that the page was formatted that way.
I can say that, over the years, I have unintentionally been creative as to where it got downloaded and extracted. It helped me perfect the maintenance of my file structure, yeah, that's my story. |
