What live cd are you using? I boot off the small one (95 mb or so one) and just download the latest tar from the net (takes a few minutes for a stage one, so no big deal for me on a 2 mbit connection) I don't usually bother with the tar on the cd, even though it's there. If there was a smaller iso to get for 64 bit booting, I'd use that.
I've got the same chipset on my board MSI K8T Master2 FAR, so that's probably not the issue. It may be just the way the cd is burnt. _________________ http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=16196755 click me for cheap linux based web hosting. |

Hi
Have tried using both the november and december full release cd`s for amd64 and also a 1.4 live cd, same problem with all 3. Have turned off legacy support for usb in bios, some one on IRC mentioned trying that but has had no change.
Cheers

Use the latest iso (gives you the latest bootable 2.6.0 kernel) dated 12-21-03, get the smallest one and use links to download the tarball from a gentoo mirror. I use links to connect to http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu and get it from there. I usually hit 300 KB/ps off that one, which is around the max for a 2 mbit connection. I had tried it off the cd 1 time before and it had done something similar to that, so I figured, I've got the bandwidth, I'll just get it from one of the servers. Worked just fine that way with no errors. _________________ http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=16196755 click me for cheap linux based web hosting. |

All LiveCD's based on the 2.6 kernel crash my box at the beginning of the hardware detection, so I had to use the very first release for AMD64 based on a 2.4.x kernel... It's not a 2.6 issue per se, as I'm currently running 2.6.0-gentoo without any problems.
My hardware:
Tyan Tiger K8W (BIOS 1.02)
1x AMD Opteron 140
2x 512 GB Corsair 400MHz reg ECC 2-3-2-6
Adaptec 19160 U160 SCSI controller
PNY QuadroFX 3000
Terratec EWX24/96
IDE, SATA and FDD controllers disabled. |
