Okay, first post. Searched around but couldn't find anything that helped me.

Just added two harddrives to my gentoo box (2.4.20-gentoo-r9), both of them are on the htp controller (on the motherboard) as /dev/hde and /dev/hdf (non RAID setup, just two drives). I can see the drives just fine but when I tried to mount them I got message saying wrong fs, bad superblock, etc. Rand fdisk on both, inspected them, had the right fs. Tried to mount again, this time got a cannot read device.

Rebooted and tried this again, same results. Tried turing DMA on and off in the hdparms.conf, no effect.

Booted up with the Live CD and tried to access the drives to make sure they weren't bad, and they came up fine. Rand fdsisk, created new partitions, ran mkfs.reiserfs, mounted them, and they were fine.

Rebooted again to my installation, tried to mount them, same error.

Any ideas?

Hi there:

The Gentoo-sources kernels (or in fact, all 2.4.20 kernels that I know of) don't like hpt37x things much - the support is much better in e.g. ac-sources or gs-sources. I'd recommend using one of those.
