I'm trying out pipewire instead of pulseaudio, so I followed the gentoo wiki. It's mostly straightforward, but there are two things I'm tripped up on.
The first is the comment on the audio group. According to the wiki:
Quote: | it is recommended that you remove your user from the audio group unless you rely on the audio group for device access control or ACLs |
I removed my user from the audio group, and "wpctl status" shows no devices. If I add the user back to the audio group, "wpctl status" shows my audio devices again. I am not aware of any reliance on the audio group for ACLs (I'm not terribly familiar with ACLs, I'm not even sure how I'd check that). I've also seen some posts about how logind has something to do with it, too, but I'm not clear on why. Can someone help clarify what's going on here?
The second thing is the part about bluetooth. The wiki says:
Quote: | Uncomment PipeWire's bluez5 module for Bluetooth devices to be listed (in /etc/pipewire/media-session.d/media-session.conf) |
However, the /etc/pipewire/media-session.d directory does not exist on my system. Is this wiki outdated, or am I missing something?
Let me know what you think. Thanks! |
