As is well-known, the current "Quick Search:" facility built into the Gentoo forums web page is pretty dire, and the better way is to use a site-specific Google search (other search engines are available). The minor trouble is having to type more. Now I've found how to set up a Firefox shortcut (sorry if this is well-known, it's new to me) - not a shortcut to the "Quick Search:", which is what you get if you follow most web articles. I don't know if it works for other browsers.
The trick is to bookmark a site specific search, such as what you get for:
Code: | site:forums.gentoo.org gentoo-sources |
edit that bookmark's URL to replace "gentoo-sources" with "%s",
and assign it a "tag" which is your chosen shortcut, say "ff".
Now you can simply type (in the firefox address bar, not in the firefox or Google seach bar):
to get a list of all larvae-related posts, albeit in a Google search list rather than a forum post list.
You can obviously do the same for packages.gentoo.org.
Now all I need is a way to make a compact search result - maybe use a different search engine. _________________ Greybeard |
