Just began running 2.6.0. So far no major problems. I do have some sound issues though:

Code:
ettin ~ $ ogg123 -z /music
=== Could not load default driver and no driver specified in config file. Exiting.

Also, I have no sound when playing UT2003. However, I do have sound in Xmms using Alsa playback.

Any ideas?

They are probably OSS compliant software using the OSS api /dev/dsp you might have ALSA with no emulation for OSS in which case you get no sound.

It might be worth recompiling ogg123 with alsa in the USE flags. When I run ogg123 it says:

Quote:

paul@boppy is_this_it $ ogg123 someday.ogg

Audio Device: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) output

Playing: someday.ogg
Ogg Vorbis stream: 2 channel, 44100 Hz

so it can use ALSA output.

reemerging libao was the key for ogg123. Now it plays using Alsa. Have't figured out Ut2003 yet but, I'm hoping I won't have to recompile my kernel.

I'm having the same problems.

Uptil now, I have had -alsa in my USE flags. This would explain why things are working...

Now I am running 2.6 kernel, and want to use alsa, what will (and how) should I recompile? Alsa, as alsa is part of the kernel now, do I need any of the alsa gentoo packages? I did get alsa-utils. I emerged alsa-lib, alsa-firmware, alsa-oss. Did I need to? Should I recompile these also?

Thanks.

mp3 also does not work, even after a re-compile of everything.

It reports that it can't find /dev/dsp (it is correct, it's not there). Why do I no longer have a dev/dsp??? Could this be my root problem?
