hello. i've managed to finally reach the finalizing part of my gentoo install, but when booting into my new gentoo installation. it shows a message at the top left saying
Quote: | EFI stub: loaded initrs from LINUX_INITRD_MEDIA_GUID |
during the showing of the lenovo logo. after a few seconds. the laptop would shut off suddenly. im not sure what caused this since ive never seen anything life it, and nobody else seems to have my problem. this happens when normally starting up the laptop as well.
i am running systemd alongside its boot loader on a lenovo G510 on a UEFI system. if you want anymore information like my kernel config, then feel free to ask. im still very new to gentoo and i hope this doesnt cause any issues with fixing the issue. |

Welcome to Gentoo Forums !
If you have configured your kernel manually then take a look into this thread
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1169152-highlight-.html
If not, then we would need more informations about your installation. Have you got any error during the installation ? |
hello! i appreciate the welcome.
i did actually manage to configure the kernel manually with SATA and other require hardware enabled. ill go take a look at the thread pronto.
as for errors. ive only found 1 with systemd saying
Systemd has not been booted with systemd as unit system (PID 1). Can't operate.
Failed to connect to bus: Host is down
when following the hostctl command with tux. other than that there isnt any other issues or errors found. ill go try enabling the two commands and see if it works |

ah. i see. then no there aren't any errors. for the fix for the shutdown. the framebuffer and DRM didnt work but ive noticed that ive missed some essential things on the kernel config for some reason. even after enabling those options. the same result kept happening. i should also ask, is it okay that there arent any .ko files when running
Quote: | find /lib/modules/<kernel version>/ -type f -iname '*.o' -or -iname '*.ko' | less |
? |

If you have configured everything statically into the kernel (so you dont have any module as <M>odule configured) then there will be none ... or you have forgotten to do a "make modules_install" _________________ https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger |

after taking a look at the kernel config. there are some modules for intel networking and ALSA but i dont think that might be something enough to turn off the pc of not there. and i use make && make modules_install. should i share my kernel config here for people to take a closer look at the problem? |

You have two video cards in your system: The AMD radeon and the GPU of your intel CPU (i915). Now it depends on your BIOS settings which is used. Many systems use:
Code: | [ 26.755065] vga_switcheroo: enabled |
and this you have already enabled in your .config ... but ...
When booting with our GentooLiveCD you have:
Code: | 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0416] (rev 06)
Subsystem: Lenovo 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [17aa:3801]
Kernel driver in use: i915
Kernel modules: i915
...
01:00.0 Display controller [0380]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Sun PRO [Radeon HD 8570A/8570M] [1002:6663]
Subsystem: Lenovo Sun PRO [Radeon HD 8570A/8570M] [17aa:3801]
Kernel driver in use: radeon
Kernel modules: radeon, amdgpu |
but you miss it in your kernel .config:
Code: | # CONFIG_DRM_RADEON is not set |
I guess you have a black screen because your system wants to use the radeon.
Maybe there are more problems ... so, I always suggest to start here for a manual kernel configuration:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger/Tutorials/Manual_kernel_configuration
(read also every linked article)
(Please dont use docs.google.com ... it is ugly to read ... so I have not looked into dmesg very deep) _________________ https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger |

If Module: Goto (3)
2) If statically: Have you also build the firmware files into the kernel:
Code: | [ 26.433551] Loading firmware: radeon/hainan_me.bin
[ 26.451325] Loading firmware: radeon/hainan_ce.bin

If no: Read (and do): https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger/Tutorials/Manual_kernel_configuration#Driver_needs_Firmware
3) If yes: I will need now your new kernel .config |
i believe ive already shared the new .config file from my last post. i do have ATI radeon drivers as a module though |

Komorzo,
I was offline 3 days ... and just checked my threads ... I am sorry there was no reply to this thread ... so, please, what is the current status ?
(maybe I would need your current .config again; can you use another machine with sshd ?; if yes, have your tried to ssh-login and check the status?) _________________ https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger |

That's great ... try to get the dmesg (if available) when you try to boot your broken kernel. _________________ https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger |

Please do not apologize - we are not always online either. Take as much time as you need. _________________ https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger |

Alright. I have came back and logged into my laptop using SSH. I've did a Uname -r and a Dmesg and what i got is the 6.6.30 gentoo kernel and a dmesg pretty similar to the old one https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Eat_wzf04tUiV4fALO95Lw5K0qnGgsHO/view?usp=sharing
ive also found a problem where i believe systemd boot may have not been installed correctly, although im not sure. running bootctl is-installed said it couldn't find an EFI system partition |
