Hi folks
I have a new installation of Gentoo (OpenRC) on an old laptop. I've noticed that when I start the Xfce4 desktop (either from a command line or from a display manager) the screen brightness is immediately set to maximum. The hardware brightness buttons work, and I see that the brightness slider in the XFce4 power applet changes to show the brightness I set with the buttons. So the system does know the brightness I want. It just doesn't restore it.
To be honest, this isn't a show-stopper. I can always set the brightness in a script. I'm just concerned that something isn't working that ought to be -- an X settings manager, for example.
This brightness setting does seem to work OK on other Linux systems with Xfce4, but they might be different versions of Xfce4, and undoubtedly they're set up differently.
I don't want to waste a lot of time on this, but the screen on my laptop is staggeringly bright at full intensity -- painfully bright, in fact.
