ysfarb,

Welcome to Gentoo Forums !

You probably had an OOM (out of memory), because you only have 8GB in total and half of that is already in use elsewhere:
Code:
KiB Mem:     7856116 total,   4658460 free

Change in your make.conf the setting to:
Code:
MAKEOPTS="-j2"

and try again to emerge nautilus (if this does not work try with "-j1")

Hi!

It appears you neglected to fully follow the directions as you didn't post the complete build log. You did provide the rest of the information so we're almost there.

Can you post the complete build log?

Then we need the complete build log. Please use wgetpaste for this ( https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Wgetpaste ).

The use-flag wayland does not mean you must use wayland instead of X.11 ... but you will need some modules from wayland for some applications. Because you have also disabled the use-flag "gnome" I guess you are using another WM ... in this case it is better to switch the profile to /desktop (instead /desktop/gnome). Even with the desktop-profile you will have "wayland" enabled globally by this profile (because you need it) !

So, remove the disabling and do a "emerge -uUDv @world" and then try again to emerge nautilus.

BTW: There is a typo "bleutooth" -> "bluetooth".

I have debugged the issue. It's another example of the same issue I discussed at https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8830900.html#8830900

Binhost versions of dev-libs/libportal have an automagic dependency on gtk+[wayland] and nautilus fails to compile because libportal is broken.

I have a fix for the libportal ebuild. It remains to be seen whether that's the solution which will be accepted by the gtk maintainers.

Status update: I rewrote my entire approach to fixing this, and asked for review here:

https://public-inbox.gentoo.org/gentoo-dev/20240623173646.3368935-1-eschwartz93@gmail.com/T/#u

My hope is that the new approach answers the concerns that others had about simply enforcing matching USE, so this may get fixed soon.
