|
|
I have attempted and failed to install gentoo from a rescue usb and now (in desperation) am going to repeat it all but with an official gentoo usb this time around.
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Installation/Media#Writing_a_bootable_USB
So far so good, but when booting from the usb I seem to not be root (please be patient as I am an old fart with a recent stroke and have perceptual issues). So how do I get an xterm in which I am root? Please be as explicit and complete as possible (as I am easily confused).
Thanks

You should be able to to run sudo su to elevate yourself to root. |

THANKS, that worked (would be nice for that magic to be given in the documentation; whereas "Alongside the kernel, boot options..." is mentioned therein, there is no indication of appropriate syntax or examples for how to actually boot with an option -- neither do the F1 or F2 keys work as described ). |
