Does the GPU firmware require a minimum kernel version for a Radeon 6800?
I'm having some hardware issues with the latest kernels and am currious if dropping back to an earlier version would solve the problems but don't know if the Firmware needs a Minimum Version of the kernel to build? _________________ AsRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4

Sometimes a new kernel does not work with the new drivers/firmware or the other way around. Especially if you use non stable kernels.
I did not find any specific version but this quote from the wiki could help
Quote: | Older kernels that do not support the amdgpu driver will not provide the AMDGPU option. For VEGA and newer chips there is no video output without DC (Display Code), which was first included in vanilla Kernel 4.15. In both cases a fairly recent kernel can provide the required drivers. For very new AMD graphics cards and APUs trying an unstable (denoted by a ~) kernel may provide the required kernel-sources. |

The list of firmware files the card wants are coded in the kernel, as long as those files exist* the kernel is agnostic towards thier version. *(either included in the kernel or available to it at boot time)
Your only issue would be going back to a old kernel that was released before support for your card was added. |

Thanks Ralphed: That's what I was thinking as the card was released in 2020 with drivers for the 5.10.x kernel.
What I'm thinking is that the 5.15 should solve other hardware problems but I wont know until I test. It's also an LTS with support through december of 2026. If popular they may extend but by that time the code should be fixed or at least a firmware update should solve my hardware issues and no, it's not a mobo bios issue but an issue with an LSI HBA. _________________ AsRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4
