Where does one set the credentials to use for a private overlay that uses HTTPS for Git?

My usecase is that I have a private overlay in Gitlab that I want use on another system that can only use HTTPS to access it, not SSH, and not be prompted to enter in the credentials (personal access token) on each sync.

Have a look at the git documentation: https://git-scm.com/docs/gitcredentials
