pam-1.6.1 breaks ejabberd using epam-1.0.14

Hi,

I just upgraded PAM to 1.6.1 and my ejabberd server stopped accepting logins. All fail with invalid user/password.
Ejabberd-24.02-r1 is using PAM through epam-1.0.14, downgrade to pam 1.5.3-r1 resolves the issue.

Dovecot also using PAM auth went on working fine.

I tried adding debug/audit parameters to pam_unix.so , putting pam_warn.so into the PAM pipeline, but don't know how to get more useful logs than "Invalid". Ejabberd debug logs weren't of any help either.
Any ideas?
