|

hallo. I am attempting to get a colour laser printer running thru gentoo.
currently it is connected with usb and prints single pages fine with cups (sysvinit) and the driver for the model from brother-overlay (hl-4570cdw)
enabling duplex print on the machine means the machine can print two sided, however when I print with usb it is only single side.
two sided print is enabled in the default options, however in print configuration menus the option is greyed out.
any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
thank you.
--edit--
print from command line also does not work correctly, with the command "lp -o sides=two-sided-long-edge filename" resulting in two single sided sheets.
--edit edit--
with the brgenml1 drivers two sided print is selectable, however the page does not print completely, only a small area, though it is twosided. _________________ hi! |

It's not a kernel problem. Look to your driver matching your hardware. _________________ Andy Figueroa

I had a similar problem, but with a Konica Minolta printer. I had no trouble printing double-sided documents on other printers that support duplex printing. However, I could not switch between single-sided and double-sided printing with a Konica Minolta bizhub C368, even though Windows users could. I tried everything with CUPS unsuccessfully and eventually implemented a work-around to switch between the two printing modes, as explained in the following post, in case it is of any use to you with your Brother printer:

Try PPDs from Open Printing for similar models such as the https://www.openprinting.org/printer/Brother/Brother-HL-4070CDW using the PPD as the "driver" during CUPS setup or modify printer. _________________ Andy Figueroa
