Hi
Yes, I know, another screenshot thread, but what the hell!
Post a screenshot of the most useful/crowded/cluttered desktop you can think up, and say what is running, and what it's purpose is - I'll lead by example, albeit a poor one (I'm only at 1024x768 on a 15" screen):
Screenshot
Explanation:
gaim - chatting, obviously, and watching Gentoo IRC
top - running from server for monitoring
firefox - web browsing, of course
amarok - music player (side note - I'd try rythembox, if I could find a post with the correct spelling)
kmail - mail (DUH)
kget - downloading stuffs
OK, g'head xinerama peoples with 16 virtual desktops and 1600x1200 screens, show me up....
Also post any tips to increase the power of you desktop - integration, transparency or even just smallifying everything.

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies
emerge: there are no masked or unmasked ebuilds to satisfy "Rhythmbox".
!!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct.
bash-2.05b$ |
It didn't work....

I never have a really crowded one, because of multiple workspaces. I did do it once for fun though, and here it is.
http://pstudios.ath.cx/screenshots/lots-of-stuff.jpg
What I'm running is:
- ROX Filer * 4
- GVIM * 2
- GIMP with 2 windows and 2 files open
- Firefox
- Gaim running in taskbar with an IM window opened
- Aterm * 2 (one is tabbed)
Along with that, GKrellM was running in the slit and BMP was playing music in my second workspace. Everything was still running smooth as well. |

Yeah. My desktop is busier and better looking; it owns his: click or the kitten gets it!
I'm running Openbox 3 with Rhythmbox, gDesklets, The GIMP, and vim in a gnome-terminal window. the GTK theme is called "Preternatural" and the Openbox theme is called "Dark Eternal". I made them both and you can get them on my site if you want them. |

are you people kidding? Thats weak. I don't feel like a taking a current screen shot now, but let me tell you that I never have less then 10 applications open (unless I just logged in)
Usually:
Gaim (with usually several conversations)
Firefox
Some sort of terminal
Gimp
XMMS
VMware
Torrent downloads window
xMule
file browser
text editor for notes, or working on a program/web page
etc...
I am always putting my system to good use. I rarely see my desktop wallpaper. |

I don't think the theme there is plastik.
However, there are ways to get "plastik" for GTK+.
First is the GTK-Qt theme, which I wouldn't necessarily recommend, because things come out looking not right.
Second, I think on kde-look, there's a theme called "plastig" that claims to be plastik for GTK. I don't recall it looking great, though.
The third, and one I use, is Metatheme. It's an attempt at a uinified theme engine for both GTK and Qt, and it actually works pretty decently.
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=13010
Give that a whirl, or one of the other two (they can both be found at kde-look, if anywhere). _________________ They don't have a good bathroom to do coke in. |

One for Gaim, an aterm, and XMMS
One for Firefox
One for Thunderbird
One for Rox, Bluefish
One for gFTP
etc.... _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

You're both WAY off. I have antialiasing enabled and am using Helvetica. Look at my theme source, it states that you need AA on and the helvetica font. I'm not sure if the font plays perfectly with the AA though. However, here is the same deal except I traded Helvetica in for Sans at size 10.

Amazing what happens when you allow the person who owns the screenshot to answer the question VS relying on your 'psychic guessing powers'. I would use Open box if it wasn't for a few things.
1) No window tabbing which I like when it comes to terminals.
2) It doesn't auto-create a menu for me so that I can edit it and I tried to make one and that b0rked it.
3) Pypanel doesn't support a system tray and OB doesn't have a bar at the bottom which leaves me stuck with a Buddy list open for Gaim 24/7.
It's not a bad WM, it just doesn't have all the features that I like. I also like PekWM, but it's lacking in the features as well although it does include more than OB. So I use Fluxbox since it has all the features I require without the need for extra programs to perform certain tasks.
With that being said, does anyone know a way to make pypanel have a system tray or know of any panel-type app that incorporates one?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and in this case I have a few things to say about your desktop:
1) It doesn't have as many windows/apps open as mine. I don't where you get that idea.
2) I don't like completely dark themes. I like because it contrasts well since I'm using SmoothStreak and then my Black-Magic Fluxbox style.
3) You should check out gtk-chtheme.

That's actually SmoothStreak which I got from art.gnome.org. |

Ah well, if you like fluxbox better, I probably shouldn't be talking you into using Openbox, allthough it's a very nice WM _________________ Thanks for reading. This has been a PingEnt presentation. |

I want to try OpenBox and such while having all of the features I enjoy in Fluxbox. Thanks for telling me where the menu file was as well. |
