Rssguard no longer starts.
Rssguard, which I have used for years with in-memory DB option, refuses to start. Near the bottom of the xterm window there is a warning about another instance running:
Code: | time=" 0.250" type="debug" -> core: SQLite version: '3.46.0'.
time=" 0.251" type="debug" -> core: OpenSSL version: 'OpenSSL 3.0.13 30 Jan 2024'.
time=" 0.251" type="debug" -> core: OpenSSL supported: 'true'.
time=" 0.251" type="debug" -> core: Global thread pool has 32 threads.
time=" 0.251" type="debug" -> core: Instantiated class 'Application'.
time=" 0.251" type="warning" -> core: Another instance of the application is already running. Notifying it.
time=" 0.251" type="debug" -> core: Destroying Application instance.
time=" 0.251" type="debug" -> core: Destroying Mutex instance.
time=" 0.261" type="debug" -> gui: Destroying IconFactory instance. |
So 'ps ax | grep rssquard' did not return any instances of rssguard. Other accounts on the same system can successfully run rssguard. I suspected a corrupted configuration, so I moved '~/.config/RSS Guard 4' and executed rssguard again: A new configuration directory was created but I received the same error message. (I put the old configuration file back.) I recursively grepped through /run/user/* for rssguard and found nothing.
I logged completely out of the system. Then, on the console as root, I killed all processes owned by my user that normally runs rssguard. I logged back in and I sill get the same error.
I eventually "fixed" this by rebooting the system.
I really dislike rebooting for a user application problem.
Where else should I have looked for something that would indicate rssguard was running? |

You should have checked what strace showed the application doing, that led it to declaring that there was a conflict. |
