|
|
I'm trying all avenues to get a working version of a 32-bit windows. Through wine, through virtual machines, and actual machines.
So for the VMs, I'm having trouble with VirtualBox, I've built it but for some reason I cannot get the modules to load:
Code: | $ VirtualBox
WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module
available for the current kernel (6.6.35-gentoo-dist) or it failed to
load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by
for m in vbox{drv, netadp, netflt}; do modprobe $m; done
You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed. |
Code: | # modprobe vboxdrv
modprobe: FATAL: Module vboxdrv not found in directory /lib/modules/6.6.35-gentoo-dist |
I've installed the drivers and even rebuilt the kernel.
Code: | # emerge -p virtualbox-modules
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 2.11 s (backtrack: 0/20).
[ebuild R ] app-emulation/virtualbox-modules-7.0.18 |
But nothing is working. I'd appreciate some help in getting these working, thanks.

Is there a reason you picked VirtualBox over qemu-kvm? I routinely see people needing help with VirtualBox modules. Qemu-kvm uses in-kernel support for its kernel component, so enabling its kernel support is straightforward. Some networking arrangements may not be simple, but that may not matter to your use case. |

Does show any infos?
Did you build the modules for the correct kernel (emerge @module-rebuild)? |

"eselect kernel list" should clarify that. |

Yes, that was it; somehow the symlink for /usr/src/linux was pointing to the incorrect one and on top of that the sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel was also different-- all fixed! Now just gotta get this WinXP image working... Thank you!
@hu, I don't see any packages in portage for qemu-kvm... |

app-emulation/qemu provides Qemu. With the right kernel support, and the option -enable-kvm, qemu can use hardware-assisted acceleration via Linux KVM support. |
