It's been a while since I frequented these parts. My daily drivers are now running Ubuntu (coz "standards"). Formerly I ran Gentoo and then Arch on my personal gear.

I still have a Gentoo VM which has gone through hell to get to modern! I ended up putting Portage into points in the past with git, getting up to date and then moving forwards in time. I had to deal with all sorts of things but it can be done. The VM was from 2012.

Gentoo gave me the skills to never worry about fixing anything that does not involve actual destruction through hardware failure.
