Today I struggled through the massive update to switch to kf6 / qt6. All things considered, it went pretty smoothly. Kudos to the KDE team for pulling this off.

I did have one problem, though. When I selected "Settings --> System Settings" in the start menu, I got an error: message: program not found.

I did a little digging, and learned that the name of the program has been changed from /bin/systemsettings5 to /bin/systemsettings. So I patched the menu entry, and now it looks as if it's OK.

Correction. It's not entirely OK. I used "System Settings" to change my sddm login screen, and the splash screen that's supposed to show after I log in. The program said it made the changes, but those changes had no effect.

Please don't manually tweak files like that. Which menu entry did you change specifically (full path)?

Does running dispatch-conf help?

I can't answer for the OP but maybe to help clarify what may happen to some users:
It could happen if the user had previously modified the entry for SystemSettings in a KDE menu or pinned the icon to the task bar with a modified entry, custom icon, etc. In my case, I had personalized the menu entry and pinned it to the taskbar which the system saved as desktop file at ~/.local/share/applications/systemsettings.desktop. After the update, this led to stale menu entries for systemsettings that still pointed to exec=systemsettings5. Right clicking on the System Settings icon pinned to the icons only taskbar on the desktop panel, and selecting edit application brings up the "Properties for SystemSettings" dialog box. In the 3rd tab, in the Program box I changed it from SystemSettings5 to SystemSettings. This does not change any desktop files in /usr/share/applications, only the user's locally modified desktop entries, which are saved in ~/.local/share/applications.
