I am no expert on sound.

Are you using ALSA or PULSEAUDIO? (From the first listing it is ALSA I believe).

You can read more on this in the GENTOO wiki relating to ALSO (https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/ALSA) or PULSEAUDIO (https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/PulseAudio).

There is a subsection in the ALSA wiki page that might be relevant, in the troubleshooting section regarding HDMI/SPDIF 5.1 and 7.1 speaker testing. That might help.

There is also a link in the PULSEAUDIO wiki page relating to DTS 5.1+ sound via S/PDIF or HDMI using PulseAudio. Maybe that might help.

Regards
