Routine weekly update. After 20 hrs recompiling qtwebengine's 30000 compileable modules, I get

The emerge --info and build.log files are quite lengthy to post.

I am hoping someone will have knowledge of the ninja problem to avoid posting these files. If posting is necessary for diagnosis, I can post.
Any insights? thanks, tom kosvic

Sorry you will need to post build.log and/or at least emerge --info which is much shorter. The ninja error is just about useless as it's the top level command that failed, the lower level failures are more interesting to help debug (it's like a company manager saying his project is running behind. But how can we find out what the problem is and how to speed it along?)
Just like a manager stating that his project is falling behind to the press, it is unfortunate it's the loudest error that shows up at the end of emerge, but it's just about useless unless someone just so happened to run across the exact same problem -- which is quite quite rare...

emerge --info gives us more information about your machine as well as settings that you may have set.

The build log is 2.5gig, the environment file is more than 8000 lines. I do not wish to corrupt the forum. If these are need, I must find a way to attach these as files.

I noticed there are multiple versions of ninja. I installed the latest ninja version. I am re-emerging python/pyside. This will take a while as pyside has 1200 compile modules.

I bet problem is again related to python version change but will see where this gets to.

The forum limits posts to ~64KB. You should install app-text/wgetpaste and use it to upload the large objects to a pastebin service, then tell us the URLs of those uploads.

I tried unsucessfully to get python/pyside to compile with both available ninja versions to complete the emerge. Same errors for both.

I am giving up on this effort and moving forward to compile kernel 6.10.7 to finish my update..

Don't know what pyside even does.

No need to put any effort into this thread.

thanks all, tom kosvic

Well, back to the manager analogy, if a project is behind schedule, replacing the manger ... probably doesn't do much...

I don't know what pyside does either ... but trying to figure it out...

tckosvic,

do you really want/need to set the use-flag "python" globally ? Usually you want enable it only for specific packages in /etc/portage/package.use ...

... sometimes users think that it is so important that it has to be set everywhere, but that is a fallacy. I have not activated it anywhere and yet all important packages that absolutely need it have the “python” use-flag active. See these two queries from my system:
Code:
$ equery h python
