I had this problem last year for a while where the laptop would randomly reset about once a week, but then it went away.
I think it's related to the latest kernel: Linux name 6.10.3-gentoo #1 SMP Tue Aug 6 00:16:53 PDT 2024 x86_64 AMD Ryzen 7 6800H with Radeon Graphics AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
I'm doing an @world update at the moment.
I'll try to dig into /var/log/messages to see if I can see the error message.
Any advice on how to attack this would be appreciated.
Actually I can't see evidence of a reboot in messages. Maybe KDE is crashing... But I don't see anything like that in the logs either. It did reboot. uptime shows three hours, so at about 6:37 AM PDT.
I found the start of the reboot in syslog. I must have the debug level too low... There's nothing to indicate any reoboot.
Maybe related question: how do I stop NetworkManager from trying to connect to wifi? I have no wifi profiles set and it still tries to connect:

It does this often and is the most verbose redundancy in my messages file. the other thing is the unknown multimedia plugs

You can either stop networkmanager as a service (https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/NetworkManager#Service), or remove the wifi card from the services (https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/OpenRC). In the OpenRC link (https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/OpenRC) there are examples on how to add/remove wifi cards to/from the services.
Or you could go to the networkmanager (cli, or any other interface you are using) and disconnect from the wifi network.
I used network manager in the past, but currently I am not using network manager (NM), but as far as I can remember, I think once you connect to a wifi network with NM it will remember that network. The next time it starts, it might look for that network again. So disconnecting from the wifi network might help.

Thanks for the reply.
I deleted all the wifi connections so it would stop trying to connect.
I enabled debug logging in the kernel and so far it hasn't crashed since... _________________ Some day there will only be free software. |

Just an alternative hint:
I didn't like NetworkManager exactly due to this behaviour.
If you are using Systemd, switch to systemd-networkd. It's light weight and easy to use. And in critical environments with a low wifi connectivity it seems to work more stable than NetworkManager. |
