Complete build log and emerge --info available if needed.

Any ideas why it fails while compiling KirigamiDialogs?

Don't paste a build failure without your emerge --info.

Code:

CFLAGS="-w -Wfatal-errors -march=native -g0 -O2 -pipe"

This is likely to confuse configure tests.

CFLAGS="-w -Wfatal-errors -march=native -g0 -O2 -pipe"

Should I remove "-march=native" from here? Or anything else?

I meant -w should be dropped. -Wfatal-errors is probably fine as it just makes things abort quicker rather than spew all possible errors after the first one.

I just set
Code:
CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe"

Still fails at the same point.
Would it help if I rebuild all dependencies with this CFLAGS?

It is OK to use -march=native. You may need to rebuild dev-libs/double-conversion at least.

I rebuilt double-conversion, qtbase, qtdeclarative and qtsvg with above basic CFLAGS.
Still the same result for kirigami.

kirigami:5 used to build just fine.

Forgot to mention that I removed qt5 USE flag, contrary to the recommendation from the last news item.
That is because I completely removed qt5 as I don't have any depending KDE or qt apps.

Please share the build.log in full. Did you definitely rebuild qtdeclarative:6 (not :5)?

Yes I did.
How should I share the full build log?
I tried pastebin in the past but it did not work for me as the regular account has a size limit.

this https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Wgetpaste can help

Thanks.

Hoping to eliminate hard to detect errors, I started a full rebuild of my Gentoo system using
Code:
CFLAGS="-Wfatal-errors -march=native -g0 -O2 -ffast-math -pipe"

It will take a while, probably till tomorrow.

I will post the full build log in case kirigami:6 still fails.

Do NOT use -ffast-math. It breaks conforming code. It is not the same as "the compiler should optimise as hard as it can for valid code", it's "I'm making assertions about what code needs" and you don't know that for all projects.

Full system rebuilt with CFLAGS as above, without -ffast-math, as recommended.

kirigami:6 build successful.

Still can't figure out what was the cause.

Am having this same issue. Dialog code is barfing on an assertion involving double_IsSpecial(). Maybe something
involving floating point math types. It's hard for me to see since I don't have access to a window system. As recommmended
I am running the update from the console with no window system. Update: precise same error.

But so I changed compiler flags to the ones above with no effect.
Main system is now b0rked. Thank you very much kde/gentoo for making me upgrade all at once.

kirigami (which to be clear is not a core kde component) is clearly delicate, and is preventing me from
compiling *anything* else. Why? Why?

And because you can't access the pastebin from the console I can't paste any build logs.

This really sucks.

Jon

Rebuilding the above mentioned three dependencies with -O2 (instead of -OFast) worked around the problem.
Kirigami is clearly sensitive to compiler flags.

kirigami is very much a core component these days. Using -Ofast is grossly unsupported as it means you're making assertions that applications don't need conforming behaviour.

Yes of course it is. Because of course.

In my opinion, -Ofast is a flag that Gentoo users should never set for themselves. It changes the rules sufficiently that it should only be set by an application whose authors have committed to support it, and if they want to support it, they ought to have their build system apply it.

You're right, the gain in speed is not worth the hassle generally. Kirigami worked with that before, but now does not. It was unfortunate to find that out in the middle of a big system upgrade, ie "the hard way".
