Playback devices randomly muted

Hoping someone might have experienced this odd behavior and have a pointer. Ever since updating to kde6, "something" is randomly muting my playback devices. I have to go into System Settings->Sound and untoggle the mute button, or use amixer from the command line to unmute the device. Theres nothing in cron and i can't find anything in any logfiles or settings that would be causing this. anyone else see this?
