I'm new to Gentoo, and I've been trying to get SDDM to work on boot, but I'm running into issues. I followed the instructions on the Gentoo Wiki for setting up a display manager, specifically for Wayland. However, upon reboot, everything else, like NetworkManager, seems to start correctly, but SDDM won't launch. I get the following error when I try to start it manually https://pastebin.com/raw/8nCShcZZ

Does it work with standard settings in the first place? SDDM with Wayland is still experimental, so we don't expose this configuration via USE flag yet.

I tried switching to X11 for SDDM, but unfortunately, it didn’t work either, and I’m still getting the same error, I honestly don't know what else I can do

How did you switch it back to X11? The default configuration should work but configuring to use e.g. X11 as non-root may not work either.

I realized I had mistakenly set it to X11 rootless mode, but I've reverted to the default configuration now. However, the system now boots directly into KDE Plasma without prompting for a password or user selection.
I’d still like to get Wayland working if possible. Is there a specific configuration for SDDM that I should use for Wayland to ensure it launches correctly? Also, how can I make sure it prompts for user selection when using X11? Thanks for the help tho!

That is only possible if you have auto login enabled. Remove those parts of the configuration and the regular SDDM UI will show up.

(Note that X vs Wayland for SDDM itself is not the same as what SDDM launches for Plasma once you login.)

Thanks! I realized I had auto-login enabled, so I removed that, and now the regular SDDM shows up. I appreciate your help!
