|
|
Hello all,
As it says. After the upgrade from plasma 5 to 6, when I connect to an external monitor things are unstable. What happens is after a few windows are open, it appears that parts of plasma crash. The desktop is partially working then, but random windows will crash.
I am happy to post any information you need to help diagnose the problem. I'll start by posting my graphics card:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation TigerLake-H GT1 [UHD Graphics] (rev 01) |

your original problem was fixed?
Any backtrace of the crashes?
If programs crash, that is not Plasma. What programs are crashing? Desktop panel and windowmanagement works fine? |

I think so. Under display, I turned "Screen tearing: Allow in fullscreen windows" off.
However, that was a different computer (a desktop). This problem is on my laptop.
I can give backtraces of crashes. Will these still be in certain logs?
As far as I can tell, to some extent plasma is crashing. The background goes black and the panel disappears. the virtual desktops remain, but various aspects of the desktop don't work. And random applications crash (google chrome, okular, alacritty, neovim-qt etc etc). These crashes only happen when using the second monitor. |

Maybe you want to mark your original thread solved and mention the fix/workaround description there?
How is the external monitor connected? Applications are actually crashing (that's when drkonqi will notify there's a crash and offers to report it), or vanishing? When does that happen, randomly or e.g. on screen suspend/wakeup?
Of course, when the panel is gone, you lose access to your minimised applications, even if they are still there. You can restart `plasmashell` using krunner, it should still work in those circumstances.
Is it a stable system? Or testing? What *actual* versions are you running there at the moment? This is basic information that I would always expect in a first post. |

Done re other thread (I marked it solved).
I will try again today (use an external monitor) and see how it goes. I will post any error messages. |
