|
|
https://bpa.st/G3U7I
Portage refuses to use binary package for libreoffice.
First it complains about bluetooth, then when disabled it complains about -bluetooth.
Same with qtwebengine and screencast. First I disabled screencast for it, then it complained it wanted bindist, I enabled it and that fixed the bindist flag, but then it complained about screencast not being enabled.
So far I've tried to runt it only on x86_64-v3 binhoost, then on the generic one, the same vicious circle.
Any ideas why I can't use the binary packages for those two?
Best Regards,

Today's update failed due to ruby31 teething troubles, and libreoffice has to be rebuilt due to changed SLOT dependencies. IIRC portage's messaging about this is a bit suboptimal. |

Should be fixed by https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=de9d78a1f4fc90d54dd2c3c5c6b61acfb1c49d10 as soon as tomorrow morning's run completes.
Portage could not figure out when --with-bdeps=y is used, that an optional choice of ruby31 or ruby32 where ruby31 is listed first, is still satisfied when ruby32 is installed -- it wouldn't let the automation uninstall ruby31. Changing the preferential ordering is a good idea anyway, and prompts portage to fail in the right direction. |

This issue doesn't seem to go away. I think it has nothing to do with ruby targets. I've built all those locally as they are very short build jobs. I think it's something related to the libassuan update. If I exclude it and change something in the use flags for libreoffice and qtwebengine that's still compatible with the binhost use setting, portage offers to use the binary packages:
Code: | # grep -r -E "qtwebengine|libreoffice" /etc/portage
/etc/portage/package.use/dev-qt:dev-qt/qtwebengine bindist -screencast
/etc/portage/package.use/app-office:app-office/libreoffice -bluetooth
|
Code: | # emerge -DuUavg @world --exclude "libassuan libvpx"

It doesn't stop with this back-and-forth disable bluetooth/screncast, enable bluetooth/screencast. Both of those packages are installed from the binhost. while I might not be that certain about qtwebengine, I'm 100% sure about libreoffice.

Your comment about libassuan is my point 2. libreoffice has to be rebuilt due to changed SLOT dependencies.
My point 1, ruby, is "well, if libreoffice has to be rebuilt then why doesn't the binhost have a rebuilt copy for me to install" -- answer is, because the binhost errored out for the whole day due to something totally unrelated to libreoffice.
The binhost attempted to update many packages via -uDN @world. One of those packages was libassuan. Another of those packages was libreoffice.
A third package was webkit-gtk. Webkit-gtk depends on ruby programs to build. Ruby was having issues, so webkit-gtk and its ruby dependencies did not build.
Because one thing didn't build, nothing build in the whole -uDN @world update.
The problem has been fixed. Here is a log of the most recent binhost build: https://paste.gentoo.zip/zoeV7ohZ
You will notice that it built most things. On KDE, there's a compile error for libreoffice ??? but on gnome, libreoffice built fine. Your paste showed you were building with -kde and +eds +gstreamer anyway, so *you* will be fine too while we try to figure out why libreoffice has compile errors on KDE. |

I just fetched updates (seems this one took a while) and the binhost is now up to date for today. So this should work fine. |

Sorry about that, I missed it the other night and today I started directly from memory.

You're correct, I use Gnome and have just as many QT packages as necessary to run a few QT applications, calibre and quassel are among them, I have just a few packages from kde-framework and 1 from kde-plasma, so I believe the KDE part about libreoffice is irrelevant to my case.
I've restored my use for those two to what they were before I attempted the update:
Code: | # grep -r -E "qtwebengine|libreoffice" /etc/portage
/etc/portage/package.use/dev-qt:dev-qt/qtwebengine bindist qml screencast
/etc/portage/package.use/app-office:app-office/libreoffice bluetooth
|
Those were the settings I settled for to satisfy the binary packages use settings.
Code: | emerge -DuUavg @world

Maybe the problem is in my system but I have no idea how to diagnose it. Any suggestions?

How many candidates does it show vs the copy of the Packages file as newly fetched from the server? |

OK, it finally got here, it must have been a synchronization issue. I just pasted the information you asked for and decided to run a check and oh, miracle, it was finally pulling the binary packages.
My previous post is around 20 minutes before the timestamp of that file: Tue Oct 8 09:03:18 AM UTC 2024
For me it's EEST, my post is from 11:41 am and the timestamp is Tue Oct 8 12:03:18 PM EEST 2024.
I'm sorry for wasting your time. I should have checked again after that.
Best Regards,
Georgi |

Alright, no problem. Happy this finally got resolved, anyway -- that update took waaaaaaaaaaay too long to complete, something like 18 hours. Too many big packages updated all at once after a logjam, loads of python 3.13 and ruby32 rebuilds as well. |
