Routine updates on my stable x86-64 system this morning included app-admin/conky, and on restart of conky, all text becomes red. Masking 1.21.7 solves the problem, as apparently 1.20 and 1.21 conky require colors to be in HEX.

See: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=295694 for a reference.

You don't need to mask version 1.21.7. Just set the colour-name-map USE flag.

Thanks for the lead, bstaletic. That worked great. colour-name-map should definitely be default. Conky-generated configs use color names.

Not that I disagree, but you should take that to the gentoo bug tracker or even make a pull request here.

Bug already reported, but not solved, at: https://bugs.gentoo.org/939667

I added the USE flag colour-name-map as a comment there.

I don't think that's the same bug -- conky not building with some configuration isn't the same as it having different behaviour.
