Howdy. I know many users experience slow dev-lang/rust compile times, and often just reach for rust-bin. Totally makes sense to do that. But, I'm curious why when building rust it apparently ignores MAKEOPTS job parameters, and drops to using only one core, or even less? Is this just an unavoidable feature of building Rust from source code that its build just cannot be fully parallelized? (I think GCC shows similar behavior.)

I also occasionally see this behavior -- there's something in the build that's causing this. However most of the times I do see it using more than one core, and usually a lot of cores. Yep, I just have one package librsvg that needs rust. No point building a compiler from scratch for that, so rust-bin for me. |
