Hi, I'm looking for a motherboard for my new PC; the cheapest that looks good to me is "MSI PRO X870-P WIFI", it has a Realtek 8126 Ethernet chip. I looked up this chip, and I see mixed results:
- People are complaining about it not working.
- People mention driver on the Realtek website, but I don't know which, or if it is in the Gentoo repo.
- Most probes on linux-hardware.org (https://linux-hardware.org/?view=search&name=RT8126#list) are failed.
Anyone here is using this chip and can share their own opinion on it? |

Kernel 6.12.x certainly references an 8126A chip as part of the r8169 ethernet driver in code (but not in the menuconfig help).
I cannot comment on how well it works, but this is where you will find it going forward as this driver is continually updated with new RealTek ethernet chips. |
