I'm right at the very end of finishing my Cinnamon build, but this package just refuses to build.

I've tried building with jadetex, but it didn't make any difference. In my web searches, I can't find anything pertinent, with most of the SOLVED threads dating back 20 years. I haven't been using Gentoo much over the last year, so I'm sure I'm missing something here. However, I did successfully build (2) KDE and Xfce systems, one with stable packages and one with unstable.

You are missing the other things Portage's output told you to post. In particular, you omitted the build.log, without which we can only guess at the cause of the problem. If you need help, please follow the instructions that Portage prints when a build fails. |

Sorry about that, I read the help message wrong. Hope it's OK to post the log here, or should I be using a service like termbin?
Hmmm..I got a general error when trying to post the log, so here's the link: https://0x0.st/XUfB.txt
And the environment: https://0x0.st/XUfu.txt |

i just tried installing docbook-sgml-utils, and it completed without issues.
The log looks bizarre: for some reason, there's a stuff in there like the text of the FDL (or significant amounts of it) and the documentation. The call stack near the end suggests something might have gone wrong running docbook2man? _________________ https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Flexibeast |

I have no idea where to go from here, either. I can't run a package cleanup, because the Cinnamon build never finished and it wants to install basically the entire system. I tried building it on my working Xfce system - same results, even after rebuilding all of the docbook-related packages. It really sucks because this package only has one version available, so upgrading or downgrading is not an option.
One that I found peculiar: the install required (5) different versions of app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd, although the latest version was not included. If you know of a way to blacklist this package so I can finish my Cinnamon install, I'd be most grateful. |

The installation of different versions of -dtd doesn't particularly surprise me, as i can easily imagine different documentation using different versions of the dtd.
To 'blacklist' the package, you can add `app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd` to /etc/portage/package.mask.
If no-one else active here knows how to properly address this, you could try opening a bug on bugs.gentoo.org about it, to get more eyes on it; it would be useful to know whether what's involved is some kind of misconfiguration of your system, or whether the ebuild itself is doing something wrong (or isn't doing something it should). _________________ https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Flexibeast |

Thanks, but it didn't help; no perl packages were altered, emerge fails as before. |

Those are some really old bugs, some started back in 2015. I tried looking at some of the pre-built binaries, but their USE flags were so generic that nothing stood out to me. I'll give this another try in the coming weeks.
Thanks for everyone's help. |

OK, I finally got past this, although I really don't know why. I decided to completely rebuild my Gentoo environment, this time with only KDE and Xfce systems alongside my server. I tried building this package with Xfce and it worked! I'm sure I did something wrong with my setup - a typo somewhere in the USE files, maybe? A bad repo sync?
Oh, well - on to the next build. |
